To please or not to please? That is the question.

My name is Gemma and I am a people pleaser. There I said it!

I recently did a workshop with Hannah Schkaapens in her membership programme The Connection Method with guest speaker Hannah Manning around limiting beliefs. It’s amazing how things snowball and after the training I got chatting to Hannah M following on from a story she’d posted on her Instagram about surrounding yourself with like-minded people.

I am on a journey at the moment to understand myself, my mindset, the things that make me tick and ways in which I can grow to live a happier, healthier life. I want to surround myself with like-minded people, people who have taken this journey, people who are still on this journey to learn from them and hopefully pass on some of my knowledge too.

I have found during lockdown I have connected with some amazing people via social media, people I speak with on a regular basis who are of a similar mindset as me and as lockdown lifts hopefully I can meet some of these people in “real life” to grow those connections.

It feels great to be focusing on the things I want in life. I have real people pleasing tendancies and I have been focusing a lot on pleasing others, with myself coming second (even third, fourth, fifth), really caring about what others think of me, holding back my opinions on something because my views “aren’t important” (there’s one of those self-limiting belifs raring their ugly head).

So I have been taking the time to focus on what I really want, looking at things I enjoy and want to pursue like drawing, being outdoors and manifesting these things into my life. I started a sign language course whilst in lockdown and in the first week I learnt the alphabet. It’s tough due to lockdown but as we’re starting to see the light at the end of the very long tunnel I am hoping to start doing some of these things in person rather than online and surround myself with people who enjoy these things too.
