Meet The Business: BlackSalt Pilates

Today we meet Ruth from BlackSalt Pilates.

Tell me a little bit about you and your business?

I’m Ruth and I’m the owner of BlackSalt Pilates. At BlackSalt Pilates I specialise in Pilates for the horse rider. I will soon be starting Equipilates classes alongside my mat work classes for non riders. I also do intrinsic biomechanics screenings to help people find any parts of their bodies that may be restricting them in their sports through muscle spasms and asymmetry.

What made you start your business?

I wanted to start my own business as I was fed up of working for other people and I wanted to be my own boss! In June last year I attended an Equipilates class in Boston and I thought “I’d love to do this”.

What do you love most about owning your own business?

I love the freedom that it brings and I love helping people with their bodies. Seeing the difference and change in people is brilliant.

What do you least like about owning your own business?

This is all new to me so I’m trying to find my feet in the world of being self-employed. It’s really hard work getting started but I know it’ll be worth it in the end.

What do you have planned for your business in the future?

I have opened a studio at Waters Edge, King Edward Street, Grimsby. I have lots of new classes planned including lunch time classes for people to attend in their lunch hour, HIITlates classes and Equipilates.

What advice would you give someone wanting to start there own business?

I have been working with E – Factor and I can’t speak highly enough of them. Their help has been invaluable so I would definitely recommend that new businesses contact them.

What are you most proud of when it comes to your business?

This time last year I hadn’t even started my training so within 11 months I’ll have become a fully qualified mat-work Pilates Instructor, Biomechanics Trainer and Equipilates instructor with my own studio! I’m pretty proud of that!

Do you think local businesses are well supported in NEL?

I think local businesses are really well supported in this area. I had no idea how much help there was available. It was only when my friend Hollie at The Rest Room put me in contact with E-Factor, the Business Hive and Totally Lincolnshire that I realised how much help there was out there.

How do you feel the business culture has changed in NEL?

As I am new in the business world I don’t really know what the culture was like before but I really get the feeling that local businesses are helping each other.

Where can people find you both online and in “real life”?

I am on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/BlackSaltPilates/), Instagram (@blacksaltpilates) and LinkedIn currently. I have a website coming soon at www.blacksaltpilates.co.uk.

From September we can be found at Waters Edge, King Edward Street, Grimsby.

Thank you so much Ruth for introducing us to your business, I definitely need to come down for a class soon!
